Adolfo Mendonça Trio in Concert

Music

The Studio@620 welcomes the return of  the Adolfo Mendonça Trio on Sunday January 8, 2023.  Make time for some authentic Latin Jazz sounds from  Adolfo Mendonça!

Brazilian pianist and keyboardist features music from his recent album “Brazilian Childhood”, mixing elements of jazz, Brazilian music, and rock in a hybrid acoustic-electric setting. Adolfo’s international quartet celebrates intercultural diversity featuring musicians from four different countries and music from several different eras and styles, including unique renditions of composers as diverse as Pat Metheny, Stone Temple Pilots, George Duke and Milton Nascimento.

Adolfo Mendonça is a jazz pianist from Brazil, currently living in Illinois. He has performed in festivals and venues in France, Brazil, Mexico and in the US, including performances at the Blue Note Sao Paulo, Jazz à Vienne, St Petersburg Jazz festival and more. He earned a master’s in jazz performance at the University of South Florida and currently teaches at Knox College and at the University of Iowa while pursuing his PhD in music. Adolfo has an extensive list of invitations for guest lectures in prestigious universities and conservatories in Brazil and in the US, in addition to several presentations in national music conferences.

In addition to watching him and his band playing his originals live, Adolfo encourages the audience to listen to his album for free, as it’s available on all streaming platforms the track “Brazilian Childhood” has been inspired in the stages of the life of a human being – early childhood (when children speak but can’t say words), the adulthood and the moment when we become parents and rejoin childhood experiences. “Ponta da Praia” has been inspired in a neighborhood in the city of Santos (Brazil) and features the legendary Randy Brecker on trumpet. “Alto da Serra” has been inspired in a hill in the city of Serra Negra (Brazil), where people use to see the sunset (as it can be seen in the album cover). “Iowa Winter Sky” has been inspired in the colors of the sunset of Iowa in the winter.

Adolfo Mendonça (Brazil) – piano, Rhodes and synthesizers

Ona Kirei (Spain) – vocals and keyboards

Alejandro Arenas (Colombia) – electric and acoustic bass
