Razed

Film

Before there was Tropicana Field and its surrounding acres of asphalt, there was the Gas Plant Neighborhood. A primarily Black neighborhood, the Gas Plant was home to families, businesses, churches, and a deep sense of community and place. The people were displaced and the neighborhood was leveled—all to make way for baseball.

Razed is the story of St. Petersburg’s historic Gas Plant Neighborhood. It shares the firsthand stories and memories from the community, presented in a historical context through documentary filmmaking. The film is directed and produced by Andrew Lee and Tara Segall of Roundhouse Creative, in partnership with Gwendolyn Reese of the African American Heritage Association of St. Petersburg, and with support from the Foundation for a Healthy St. Petersburg.

Razed continues to impact audiences through licensed public and private screenings, as well as film festivals nationwide. To learn more about upcoming screenings or request a screening for an organization or group, visit https://gasplantfilm.com/how-to-watch/.
