The Studio@620 welcomes the return of St. Petersburg native Timm Mettler. This artist studied and developed in Tampa Bay and has since relocated to New York City. Mettler is fascinated by painting’s form much as a poet is with words. Mettler’s practice has led him to consider making objects out of traditional canvas paintings by sculpting the foreground out of an interlaced weaving of found materials. The frame of the object is used to anchor the work in front of the painting’s prized surface. The play between the netting obscuring the grounded painting is an abstracted, non representational construction. Artworks by Timm Mettler constructed of found materials return to the Studio@620 for a show running November – December 2022.
