What starts as a polite academic conversation quickly unravels into something far more charged.

This February, HerStoriesTold brings The Niceties—the sharp, timely play by Eleanor Burgess—to The Studio@620.

Set in a university office, The Niceties centers on a meeting between a progressive white professor and her Black student that spirals into a fierce, deeply human debate about race, power, history, and who gets to control the narrative. What begins with good intentions exposes uncomfortable truths about privilege, identity, and the limits of civility.

Smart, unsettling, and often darkly funny, The Niceties doesn’t offer easy answers—but it invites audiences into the tension, the questions, and the conversation we’re still learning how to have.

Join us for a production that challenges assumptions, sparks dialogue, and lingers long after the lights go down.
